The Trivial Big Cause

People were whispering ‘oh my god, on such a petty thing she hanged herself!  This generation has zero/no tolerance. Her mother merely told her not to attend a birthday party and she committed suicide! For this generation, only friends are important. They do not value their parents.’ One said, ‘”this rubbish social media is spoiling our children and the other one was blaming education system.”

A soul stirring cry was coming from inside, her father was crying like anything, mother fainted as she saw her hanged daughter. Meanwhile somebody had informed the police, the police came and they felt faint for a moment. They did their formalities and took the dead body along with them.

The whole family was shedding tears, sobbing and crying, wringing hands as if everything had gone along with her. Her sisters were with blank eyes as if they wanted to convey her mother that if you wouldn’t have scolded her, she would have been with us.

What if I scolded and said a few harsh words or beat her every day with broom, stick, roller stick and sandal: till the age of 17 years, this was just to make her a disciplined child. What if I did not allow her to watch movies, serials and forced her to go to attend Satsang & Bhajan every day, I did this only to impart moral values in my daughter from beginning.

What if I did not allow her to wear stylish outfits? I did not allow her to make friends and talk to them just because I was there for her 24×7, she could share with me if she had a grief. That day, when she committed suicide, I only forced her to attend the Bhajan’s instead of going to a birth day party. Now the mother cries over spilled milk.

This girl was much suffocated, she had no room for her soul, she had no friend to share, she had no listening ears and understanding parents. She could not cry even because her mother did not like wiping tears, she was just a puppet for her parents; actually the parents were very demanding, rigid, possessive but not responsive, understanding, affectionate, caring & concerned parents. Actually they were Authoritarian parents.

As the pain became unbearable, bottled up with tremendous stress, could not find a ray of hope the girl ended her life at a tender age of 18 years. While ‘people’ are blaming youngsters, modern era, social media and our education system…….

Her two sisters are still in trauma and they are saying that she did well; at least she ended up every day torture in a few seconds. After meeting with the family members, many questions arose in my mind; Was it right for them to inflict their beliefs on everyone else in such a cruel manner ? Was it right for the girl who had no space for herself; choosing attires, making friends, going out for recreation etc. ? Was it right that the girl was beaten harshly/ scolded almost every day ? Did she commit suicide because of the birthday party and bhajan, or was the cause something else ?
